Read the contract first

Gold, crude oil, E-mini S&P 500 and E-mini Nasdaq-100 futures have different contract sizes, minimum price increments and expiration dates. Verify the exact symbol and contract month before interpreting a print. A one-tick move has different dollar values across contracts.

Executed trades versus resting orders

Time & Sales shows completed trades. A depth-of-market ladder shows displayed orders waiting at prices. Orders may be cancelled, replenished or only partially displayed. A large order is therefore an observation, not a promise that price will hold.

Practice with context

Use replay or observation to compare activity before and after a scheduled release. Record the contract month, session, spread and trade pace. Watch whether liquidity moves into another expiry around a contract roll. Simulated fills may differ from real execution.
